Evaluation

Evaluation: The determination of the value, nature, character, or quality of something or someone. A systematic and intentional process of gathering and analyzing data (quantitative and qualitative), to inform learning, decision-making and action.

As an evaluator, I draw on my experience in cultural education with my strong analytic and strategic skills, supported by my ability to observe, listen and ask good questions.

I can work with you for the duration of a project on all aspects of the evaluation, from understanding the aims of the project, designing the evaluation framework, collecting and collating data, to analysing and presenting it.

I can also work with you to facilitate the creation of an evaluation framework and data collection tools for you to use independently of my input.

At the heart of any evluation I undertake will be to take account of the voices of those involved in your work, ensuring that their views and experiences are listened to and finding the most appropriate ways to gather them.

Ways in which I can help include:

  • Strategic planning for programmes of work or at organisational level
  • Creating a Theory of Change
  • Working collaboratively to set up an evaluation framework for the organisation or a specific project
  • Creating data collection tools for you to use
  • Conducting the evaluation process including data collection, interviews, focus groups
  • Analysing and presenting data including report-writing
  • Setting the work within its context
  • Drawing on my experience to make recommendations for next steps

Judith has completed independent evaluations for London Sinfonietta on a number of programmes… Her knowledge of the music education landscape and her practical understanding of how to complete evaluation brings so much to her work. Her reports have been laid out in a clear way and provide just the right balance of challenge whilst recognising the achievements of the project. Her insights into how we can develop and reach more young composers are so helpful and have been helpful as we plan the programmes in future years.
